Tom jotted down these healthy things to emphasize in our diets this year:

Fruits/Vegetables:

  • kale
  • beet greens
  • leafy greens
  • watercress
  • wild blueberries (frozen from CostCo)
  • broccoli
  • avocados

Herbs/Spices/Roots:

  • garlic
  • ginger root
  • cinnamon

Protein sources:

  • nuts (especially walnuts)
  • legumes
  • lean meat (especially fish and poultry)
  • yogurt (with active cultures)

Miscellaneous:

  • oatmeal (Karin prefers steel cut – more texture)
  • extra virgin olive oil

Recap:

In a small mixing bowl, combine:

  1. 2 C Leafy Greens (we used Kale and Mixed Baby Greens)
  2. 2 C Liquid (juice, water, low fat milk, almond milk or soy milk)
  3. Use immersion blender to liquify greens into other liquid
  4. Add 1 C frozen Sweet Cherries and 2 C frozen Wild Blueberries and 1/2 very ripe banana
  5. Use immersion blender to blend frozen and fresh fruits into smoothie mixture
  6. Serve and enjoy!
